Optimizing Cloud Costs of Businesses
Optimizing Cloud Costs of Businesses

More businesses have started to rely on cloud computing technology these days owing to its potential to handle business critical data while giving on-demand access to data at anytime from anywhere. This explains why the web hosting Dubai sector now face a rising demand for cloud servers to host their websites.

However, many businesses are still reluctant to adopt the technology due to privacy and cost concerns. This led to research on cloud cost management, and strategies to optimize cloud cost in an enterprise. Estimating cloud costs is quite impractical as different enterprises adopt cloud differently. Thus, a cloud cost optimization strategy should be devised in such a way that it handles the complexities and considers the annual budgetary provisions of individual organizations.

Public cloud saves costs

Public cloud is a sensible option to save costs of using cloud solutions. It’s a multi-tenant arrangement where many users share resources of the cloud server. Because there could be all kinds of users in the public cloud, there are concerns regarding the privacy of data. However, if the cloud service provider is reputed and reliable, the data will be secure regardless of the tenants in the cloud.

Enterprises can also use the hybrid cloud – a combination of public and private cloud. This way, they can use the private cloud to carry out applications that deal with mission critical data of that enterprise while external applications are run on public cloud systems thus cutting costs.

Downsizing data on the cloud

Reducing the amount of data on cloud servers also reduces cost, because the more data you store, the more bandwidth is used. As bandwidth increases, cost goes up as well, especially when the stored data moves out.

So rather than moving every data of the organization to the cloud, it’s better to keep the most important ones in the organization’s own networks.

Migrate only vital services to the cloud

Businesses may adopt cloud for various services including inventory management, payroll and HR, supply chain management, CRM services etc. However, adopting cloud for all these services without considering costs is not a wise idea. It’s better instead to migrate only the most important services to the cloud.

Compare proposals from different vendors

To zero in on a reliable cost-effective cloud service including cloud hosting providers, you will have to compare proposals and service level agreements of various vendors. This would give you an idea of the nature of the service you are receiving. Certain cloud vendors may charge more for additional services, or might even restrict your data to add more fees. This is why it’s important to invest time on some research to shortlist a few reliable and reputed cloud service providers.
